The eternal silence of these infinite spaces terrifies me!
BFA project / A series of copper plate etchings.
During the renaissance people rejoiced over the capacity of human beings to discover their new, redefined world. With excitement they explored both themselves and the heavens, where the sun circled round the earth in a beautiful orbit. Then came the crash. Things that had earlier been regarded as scientific facts now showed themselves to be a complex weave of something much greater. How was one to explain the world, one’s own self and the soul in a system in which the earth was just one celestial body among an infinite number of others, and in which the human world was demonstrably not situated in the centre of universe as one had previously believed?
Philosophers and scientists tore their hair, and many of them are still doing so.
This project is an investigation into how we construct our own reality. How each and every person finds a way of living based on their own conditions, and how there are an endless number of ways of relating to everything we see and experience. There is no universal truth, but we try to create a defined number of ways of relating in order to understand and manage our own reality.
